Drug convict arrested by Mandaluyong cops

A convicted drug personality was nabbed by members of the Mandaluyong Police Station following an operation on Friday, police said yesterday.

In a report submitted to Eastern Police District (EDP) director Chief Supt. Bernabe Balba by Mandaluyong police chief Senior Supt. Moises Villaceran Jr., the fugitive was identified as Alberto Unay, 40, single.

A Warrant and Subpoena Section team, headed by SPO4 Bobby Rico and PO3 Ivon Panes, nabbed Unay at his house at 835 Nueve de Pebrero St., Bgy. Mauway, Mandaluyong City at 9 p.m.

The arrest was made by virtue of warrant of arrest issued by Mandaluyong City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 213 Judge Carlo Valenzuela docketted under No. MC02-5931 for violation of Sec. 11, Art. 2, RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Court records showed that Unay was convicted  by Mandaluyong RTC on drug charges in 2017 and meted 12-17 years of imprisonment.

Police said the fugitive  went into hiding after his conviction until they received an information that he was seen going home during the wee hours to avoid arrest.

Barangay officials nabbed Unay in 2002 on Martinez St., Bgy. Mauway, after they chanced upon the suspect while conducting anti-criminality operations.

Authorities seized an undertermined amount of illegal drugs from Unay, also a known drug personality in his barangay.

The fugitive was detained at the Mandaluyong City polic, waiting for commitment order to New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
