A policeman assigned at the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) was killed by riding-in-tandem suspects while having a drinking spree with his friends in a basketball court yesterday morning in Tondo, Manila.

PO2 Carlo Pineda, 47, of the holding unit of the NCRPO and formerly an operative of the Manila Police District-homicide section, was reportedly shot at around 1:30 a.m. at the corner of F. Varona and Francisco Streets in Tondo.

The victim was said to be in a drinking session when the masked suspects arrived already armed with guns and then fired at the cop repeatedly and at close range, hitting him in different parts of the body. The suspects then casually walked away from the crime scene, rode their motorcycle and then sped away.

The policeman was rushed to the nearest hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police are now reviewing the CCTV records in the area in the hope of establishing the suspects’ identities and the motive for the killing.
