Construction worker hit with shovel by colleague while sleeping, dies

A construction worker was killed by his colleague, who allegedly repeatedly hit his head with a shovel while he was sleeping, right inside the construction site where they are working, in San Andres, Manila.

A probe by SPO2 Jona-than Bautista of the Manila Police District-Homicide Section said that victim Jul Velasco, 36, a stay-in construction worker, of 11th Avenue Extension, HHSG North Signal Village,Taguig City, died due to severe head injuries.
The suspect, identified as Isagani Cano, also 36, and stay-in worker, of A. Francisco corner Onyx Streets in San Andres, Manila, was arrested.
Investigation showed that the victim was asleep in the second floor of the said construction site when, at around 2:30 a.m., the suspect hit the victim’s head repeatedly with a shovel for still unclear reason.
Moments later, a co-worker, Julius Oribiana, reportedly saw the victim full of blood and rushed him to the hospital.
PO1 Adonis Camacho of the MPD-Station 6 later arrested the suspect based on a report filed by Oribiana. The incident is being investigated.
