TWO armed suspected drug traffickers in Bulacan were killed in separate encounters with undercover agents in San Rafael and Hagonoy municipalities on Thursday night, Bulacan police director Senior Supt. Romeo M. Caramat Jr. announced yesterday.

The official identified the slain suspects as Valentino Austria, alias ‘Val Austria/Bebe,’ 35, of 337 Bgy. Talacsan, San Rafael, who is included in the watchlist of drug personalities in the municipality, and one alias ‘Ariel’ of Calumpit.

Caramat said that Austria was killed after exchanging fire with undercover officers from the San Rafael Municipal Police Station headed by Supt. Rizalino Andaya. Reports said the suspect had just sold P500 worth of shabu to a poseur when he tried to put up a fight while about to be arrested.

The suspect fired shots at the undercover officer, prompting other lawmen positioned in the area to return fire, killing him on the spot. Recovered from the slain suspect were one caliber 9mm semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing two live ammunition, eight heat-sealed plastic sachets containing about 1.2 grams of shabu, the marked P500 bill and a wallet containing several identification cards and assorted documents.
The slain suspect’s motorcycle without plate number was impounded by the San Rafael police.
In Hagonoy, local policemen headed by Chief Insp. Restituto Granil killed a certain “Ariel” in a gunbattle with undercover cops on the same day. Caramat said an unidentified cohort of the suspect managed to escape on board a motorcycle and is still being hunted as of press time.
Recovered at the scene were a cal. .38 revolver with three live ammunition, six plastic sachets containing P5,000 worth of shabu and the marked money.
