Bike rider dies in collision with SUV in Manila

A 64-year-old motorcycle rider was killed after he figured in a collision with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Ermita, Manila early yesterday  morning.

Victim Epifanio Reloza Cremat, of 101 Crystal St., Shape l HMS 1 H, Bacoor, Cavite, died while receiving treatment in the hospital where he was rushed.

Meanwhile, police arrested the SUV driver, identified as Fernando Gascon Fernandez, 56, of Sitio Cacalog Cageo,  Antipolo City and he remains in the custody of the Vehicle Traffic Investigation Section (VTIS) of the Manila Police District (MPD).

Investigation showed that the accident occured at 4:15 a.m. at the corner of Remedios and M.H. del Pilar Streets in Ermita.

The victim was reportedly aboard his Euro motorcycle and cruising along Remedios Street when he collided with the Toyota Innova (APA-8713) being driven by Gascon, who was then driving along the southbound lane of M.H. del Pilar Street.

On impact, the victim got thrown out of his motorcycle and landed on the concrete ground head first. His motorcycle was heavily damaged.

Members of the Philippine Red Cross led by one Isabel Borromeo responded and brought the victim to the nearest hospital to no avail.

P01 Lester Montero of the Remedios Police Community Precinct (PCP) under the MPD-Station 5 arrested the suspect and brought him to the precinct where charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property were readied for filing against him.
