A senior citizen, who has been suffering from lingering illness, finally ends his ordeal after he hanged himself using a patient’s gown at a hospital yesterday morning in Marikina City.
Reports gathered at the Eastern Police District (EPD) said the victim, Alejandro Fernandez, 60, fish vendor, of 174 Champaca 11, Bgy. Fortune, Marikina City, was a patient at the surgery ward of Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center (ARMCC) located along Sumulong Highway in Bgy. Sto. Niño, Marikina City.
Investigation conducted by the Marikina police disclosed that the victim was found hanging on a patient’s gown looped around his neck and tied to the hospital surveillance video at 4:50 a.m., by another surgery patient, one Merdan Joy Sioson, confined in another room.
Police said the victim’s wife, Flora Fernandez, told investigators that her husband was confined at the said hospital since September 7 and was scheduled to undergo operation which police did not elaborate.
When the wife was past asleep at the 3rd floor of the his ward, she did not notice that the patient went to his room. She thought that he would just get water at the nursery station.
However, while she was looking for her husband, she was informed that he hanged himself to death.
It was learned that the victim, had previous suicide attempts while confined at the said hospital by stabbing himself using a pair of scissors and drank muriatic acid but survived.
The victim’s family is convinced that the victim ended his life because he has been suffering from severe depression due to his lingering illness.
