FIVE drug suspects were killed when they allegedly engaged policemen in separate shooting encounters in Manila.

SPO2 Bernardo Cayabyab of the Manila Police District-homicide section said suspect  Richard Borinaga, 43, of Smokey Mountain, Tondo, Manila, was shot by operatives led by Senior Inspector Jervies Soriano, commander of the Smokey Mountain-Police Community Precinct when a team from the MPD-Station 1 responded to a tipped information that a kidnapper was hiding in the area.

Once there, the police team was met by a volley of gunfire from Borinaga. Police returned fire until PO2 Joel Castro hit Borinaga fatally.

Investigation later showed that Borinaga was a known drug pusher in the area and thought that the cops were after him which was why he fired at them.

Police said they recovered a  .38 cal. gun and a sachet of shabu from him.

Meanwhile, a drug suspect identified only through his alias as ‘Homeboy’ was killed when he allegedly shot it out with MPD cops who were to arrest him after he was caught in the act of peddling shabu near the Pasig River on Muelle dela Industria in Binondo, Manila.  The cops said they acted on tipped information.

Homicide prober SPO4 Glenzor Vallejo said the suspect was said to be a ‘Batang City Jail’ gang member and bore the tattoos ‘Barok’ and ‘Aliza’ on the right and left thigh, respectively.

The shooting reportedly took place at around 8 p.m. at the corner of Juan Luna Street and Muella dela Industria. The suspect was brought to the hospital where he died hours later while being treated for his wounds.

PO1 Lawrence Legaspi reportedly acted as the poseur-buyer. The deal was over when the suspect reportedly sensed that Legaspi was a cop, drawing a gun and then shooting at the latter. PO1 Manny Montemayor, then serving as a back-up, fired at the suspect, from whom they recovered, also a .38 cal. gun and a sachet of shabu.

In another development, suspects Jonathan Sumagka Jr., 23, of  1350 La Torre St.; Francisco Pacheco, 38, of 1362 Narcisa St. and Lauro Soriano, 55, also of Narcisa Street, all in Tondo, Manila, were killed in a shooting encounter with MPD-Station 2 operatives that took place at 5:58 p.m. at the Estero de Magdaleno near the corner of Narcisa Street in Tondo.

PO2 Alvin Alva served as the poseur-buyer and managed to purchase P500 worth of shabu. As usual, however, the suspects sensed that they were dealing with a cop and shot it out with the police.

Police said they recovered from the suspects three .38 cal. guns, seven sachets of shabu and 11 spent shells.
