Three policemen were arrested by their colleagues for illegal discharge of firearms.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar identified the three officers as SPO4 Benie Felipe, assigned at PCRG Camp Crame, Quezon City; PO3 Joselito Felipe, beat patroller assigned at PCP2 Talipapa Police Station, QCPD; and PO1 Christian “Boy” Felipe, assigned at Anonas Police Station, who are related to each other.
Investigation showed that prior to their arrest, QCPD PS-11 received a telephone call from SPO1 Victor Gaspar Jr., 53, assigned at the National Police Commission (Napolcom), thru 911 hotline reporting three policemen illegally discharging their firearms.
Acting on the information, PS-11 personnel, led by Supt. Dela Cruz, on board two patrol cars, immediately responded. Upon their arrival, SPO1 Gaspar Jr. pinpointed the three police officers who were immediately arrested.
Recovered from PO3 Felipe was a cal. .45 Colt pistol with serial no. FG88393. All three suspects turned out positive during alcoholic breath tests. They are detained at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) facing charges. Results of paraffin tests are still being awaited.
Eleazar commended the officers for not hesitating to arrest the erring fellow policemen, saying, “Despite our determined internal cleansing, it appears there are still personnel who dishonor their uniforms and stain their badges. We will not hesitate to throw the book at such hardheads. However, we can see here that the cleansing is working because the arresting officers did not sweep the incident under the rug.”
