TWO suspected gunrunners were killed in a shootout with operatives of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) during a buy-bust operation at dawn yesterday in Bgy. Payatas, Quezon City.
QCPD director Chief Supt. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr. said they are still determining the identity of the slain suspects.
A report gathered from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the QCPD said that at about 2:45 a.m. on Sept. 26, 2018, at Group 6, Payatas Road, Bgy. Payatas, a buy-bust operation was set against one Jose Guevarra, alias Jopal, who was said to be a leader of a gun-running group operating in QC and nearby cities.
During the transaction, Guevarra noticed that he was dealing with an undercover operative and quickly escaped on board a Toyota Vios car with “For Registration” plate, leaving his two companions behind who opened fire at the operatives.
A shootout ensued that led to the death of the two.
Recovered from the slain suspects were an MK2 fragmentation hand grenade, a cal. .22 black widow Magnum revolver loaded with four live ammunition, a cal. .38 revolver with three live ammunition, two homemade guns or sumpak with one fired cartridge case, four live ammunition for cal. .38, two ammunition for 12-gauge shotgun, five sachets of shabu and P2,000 buy-bust money.
Esquivel commended the operatives for their accomplishment.
