2 gangmen killed in clash with cops

TWO alleged members of two notorious gangs were killed after they reportedly shot it out with members of the Manila Police District-Station 3 during a buy-bust operation in Sta. Cruz, Manila, the other day.

The two were identified as Anthony Lovato, 30, of  Bgy. 575, G. Tuazon St., Sampaloc, Manila, and Reynante Hohokam, 55, of C.M. Recto Avenue in Sta. Cruz, Manila. They were said to be members of the Sigue­ Sigue Sputnik and  Sigue-Sigue Commando gangs, respectively.

Police said the operation took place at 7:45 p.m. at the second floor of a house located at 1360-B Quiricada corner lpil Streets in Bgy. 327, Z-33, Sta. Cruz, Manila.

PO3 Aldeen Legaspi of the Manila Police District-homicide section said the operation was conducted by members of the Alvarez PCP but the suspects sensed that they were dealing with cops.

Initially, Lovato ran toward an alley and was pursued by the police until he reached his home, took his gun and shot it out with the cops.

Moments later, Hohokam came out of his room and also fired at the police, prompting the latter to shoot back and hit the duo fatally.

Once the smoke cleared, the two were brought to the nearest hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.

Recovered from the suspects were eight sachets of shabu, P500 in marked money and two .38 cal. guns.
