2 fake DILG finance execs held

POLICE arrested two men allegedly posing as finance officers of the office of Department of the
Interior and Local Government  (DILG) Officer-in-charge (OIC) Catalino Cuy and soliciting cash
donations purportedly for rehabilitation of Marawi yesterday in Makati City.

Senior Supt. Jerry Umayao, chief of Makati City police, identified the suspects as Ricardo
Simbulan, 63, and Mitus Sampayan, 39, both of Bgy. Pembo, Makati City.
    
Police said the suspects were arrested at 2 p.m. in an entrapment operation while allegedly
soliciting money in a pawnshop on JP Rizal Extension, Bgy.  Comembo.
    
Prior to the arrest of the suspects, police said they received numerous complaints about the
suspects reportedly going around the city and soliciting money allegedly for Marawi City Rehabilitation
Program.
    
Police added that they were also alerted following the complaint of the DILG represented by
Michael So, 42, about the illegal solicitation of donations for Marawi.
    
The suspects, who are currently detained at the Makati City police detention cell, are facing
charges for swindling and extortion.
