2 dead, 4 hurt in Manila fire

TWO persons, including a 77-year-old man, died while a fireman and three others were wounded when a
fire hit a residential area in Sampaloc, Manila, yesterday morning.

The Manila Fire Department (MFD) identified one of the fatalities as Anastacio Cruz. The other
has yet to be identified since the body was burned beyond recognition.
    
Those wounded were Ritchie Catle, 37, Fire Officer 1 John Natividad, who reportedly jumped off
the second floor of a burning house, one Rosemarie Gonda and her daughter Mary Ann.
    
Reports have it that at least 10 houses were razed by the said fire which left 30 families
homeless.
    
Said fire began from the second floor of a house owned by one Boy Arthus located at 32B Maria
Francisco St., Sampaloc, Manila, at around 10:20 a.m. and quickly spread to adjacent houses. A ‘fire
out’ was declared at 11:30 a.m.
    
Initial investigation showed that the fire was caused by children playing with matches.
