SEN. Mar Roxas yesterday confirmed that Sen. Panfilo Lacson along with former Cabinet officials of ousted President Estrada was in New York in September 2000 attending a “millenium summit” at the United Nation’s headquarters.
Roxas’ confirmation belied the statements of former police officer Cesar Mancao that he overheard Lacson ordering his colleague, Michael Ray Aquino, to kill publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito.
He said the whole delegation left Manila on board a Philippine Airlines plane on Sept. 4, 2000, and returned nine days later.
“I recalled that Sen. Lacson, who was then the PNP chief, was a member of the Philippine delegation in the summit. He was with us in the United States at that time,” Roxas said.
He was then the secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry. The senator filed an affidavit before the panel investigating the Dacer-Corbito case yesterday.
Lacson had earlier asked the panel to subpoena Roxas to corroborate his counter-affidavit.
“Hindi totoo na I was ordering Aquino to kill Dacer kasi during that time, I was with Roxas along with former officials as part of Mr. Estrada’s contingent in a UN summit,” he said.
