FORMER news anchor Secretary Ricky Carandang faces a tough time at the Commission on Appoitnments. Sen. Loren Legarda said she will grill Carandang if he helped President Benigno Aquino during the campaign. Carandang heads one of the three departments of the Communications Group of Aquino. The other two are Press Secretary Ed Lacierda and Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma. “Why should we be soft on anyone? I mean we have to screen everybody with the same standards. And I will ask the question you are asking me. Were you part of the LP campaign?” Legarda told reporters. There were unconfirmed reports that Carandang, while still working with ABS-CBN, was part of the Liberal Party media group during the last national elections. ”You can see the independence of journalists or practitioners because you can’t be an anchor and journalist and be doing PR at the same time for a candidate. That means both of your stories were colored,” Legarda said. |
