Marian Rivera

MARIAN Rivera just returned from the U.S. to do shows and met BF Dingdong Dantes in New York last Wednesday and quickly reported to “Eat Bulaga” to help host the Juan for All, All for Juan segment where she gives away watches and a Pangkabuhayan Package to lucky recipients. She was with co-hosts Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola and Ruby Rodriguez at their assigned location in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, when the editor of FHM Magazine, Allan Hernandez, popped out to announce that she just won again the annual FHM search for the country’s sexiest woman. This is the third time she bagged the title. The first one was in 2008, then last year 2013 and this year 2014. According to Allan, Marian got more than 1.5 billion votes. Marian is so happy to receive the honor and thanked all her supporters who voted for her.

Earlier, she also won Female Newsmaker of the Year in the PEP Awards and Celebrity of the Year in Yahoo Awards. Marian is also very happy because her one of a kind dance-musical show, “Marian,” shown on Saturday nights, is rating very high and is fully loaded with commercials.

ALEX Gonzaga is better known as a comedian-host, what with her exposure in “Banana Split” and “PBB Uber.” She now stars in her first teleserye on ABS-CBN, “Pure Love,”  based on the Koreanovela “49 Days” shown in 2011 but now adapted for Pinoy viewers by director Veronica Velasco (in her first teleserye after doing movies like “Inang Yaya” and “Tuhog”) to show the strong ties that bind a Filipino family.

Alex plays Diane, a bubbly rich girl who seems to have it all but one day meets an accident that makes her comatose.

Her soul meets Matt Evans as the Scheduler, an angel who becomes her guide on earth. She’s told that she’s not really fated to die and she can have a second chance on life if she could gather three tear drops of pure love from people outside of her family within 40 days.

“Para magawa ko ito, I’m given the power na sumapi sa katawan ni Yen Santos as Ysabel, a poor girl na laging depressed mula nang mamatay ang boyfriend niya,” says Alex. “Nagpapasalamat talaga ako kasi puro magagaling ang mga makakasama ko rito. My leading men are Arjo Atayde and Joseph Marco, kasama rin namin sina Yam Concepcion, Arron Villaflor, Anna Luna, Sunshine Cruz, John Arcilla, Ana Capri, Bart Guingona, Dante Ponce at Shey Bustamante.”

The taping of “Pure Love” abruptly stopped when Alex was suddenly assigned to be a PBB housemate. “Na-shock ako noon at lagi kong sinasabi kay Kuya, nagte-taping po ako ng ‘Pure Love’, umeere na ba siya? I stayed inside PBB for 49 days, na siyang original title ng ‘Pure Love’.”

“Because of that, nabitin kami,” says Direk Veronica Velasco. “Hindi namin alam kung kailan lalabas si Alex from PBB. But we took it as a chance para ma-review namin 'yung footage that we’ve taped para mas mapaganda ang show. As of now, nasa week 2 pa lang ang taping namin dahil sa delay.”

Off cam, Alex was wooed by Korean comedian Ryan Bang who’s with her in “Banana Split”. But it’s obvious Alex doesn’t like him. Now, Arjo Atayde is very open in declaring that he likes her. “Mabait si Arjo. Masarap katrabaho. Laging nagpapakain sa set. Ang galing pang umarte. But the doors to my heart are closed.”

To which, Arjo says: “I’ll wait for them to open.”

CARLA Abellana laughs off the efforts of some writers to pair her with Tom Rodriguez even off cam. “Hindi naman puwedeng pilitin 'yan dahil lang break na sila ng girlfriend niya at kabi-break ko rin lang,” she says. “I don’t want to expect or assume anything. Also, gustuhin ko mang magka-lovelife, I wouldn’t have the time for it sa dami ng ginagawa ko ngayon. I have a new primetime soap ‘My Destiny’, may Sunday sitcom akong ‘Ismol Family’, and may movies pa kong ginagawa, so walang puwang ang affairs of the heart at this point.”

Was she hurt when Geoff Eigenmann didn’t even bother to greet her when she celebrated her birthday on June 12. “I’m just wondering kung bakit ang mom niya, mga pinsan niya, even stepmom niya, binati ako, but siya, not a word. I’d like us to remain friends sana, but tigilan na natin siya dahil may nagbibintang na ginagamit ko raw siya to promote ‘My Destiny’, ganong sinasagot ko lang naman ang mga tanong ng press sa’kin.”

How is it working with Rhian Ramos as her sister in “My Destiny” that starts airing tonight? “Masaya. We really treat each other as sisters. We’re having fun along with the other members of the cast, like Lorna Tolentino and Al Tantay as our parents, and with our director, Joyce Bernal.”

DIRECTOR Maryo de los Reyes and the whole cast of “Niño” are grinning from ear to ear these days. And why not? “Niño” is soaring high in the ratings. “Lahat kami sa show, natutuwa talaga dahil nag-pick up na ang ratings namin,” he says. “Our efforts paid off. Having a show that imparts values education, good moral lessons and respect for positive human behavior has always been considered as contradictory to commercial success. At least now we can say that the audience are the ones clamoring for these. Parents, teachers, the religious are all endorsing the show.

What a fulfilling feeling! We are very thankful and hope that children and the general public will continue to be inspired by the show as much as we are also challenged to continually bring them good entertainment values that bank on faith, hope, love of God and in the goodness of men.”

This week, Miguel Tanfelix as Niño learns how to write with the help of a Special Education teacher and remains friends with Katrina Halili as Hannah, who continues to yearn for her missing son and gets depressed each time the boy’s birthday nears, not knowing it’s no one else but Niño who calls her Mama Hannah. Meantime, the people in Barangay Pag-asa has found hope in the spring of water that helps them in their “koprahan,” a blessing from the Sto. Niño who is Niño’s Tukayo, played by tot actor David Remo.

JILLIAN Ward is predicted by most writers to be a future superstar. She’s not only very pretty, she also acts well and sings impressively. What we like about her is that she’s so honest. When asked if she and rival Mona Louise Rey are friends, she says:

“We’re not very close friends pero hindi naman po kami magkaaway. Wala kasing chance na maging very close kami kasi sa taping lang kami nagkikita. Pero magkasundo po kami kasi kami ang madalas na magkaeksena.”

Jillian plays the BFF (best friend forever) of Mona in the new GMA show that starts airing tonight at 6 p.m., “My BFF.”  “Ang naiiba po, multo ako rito at si Mona lang ang nakakakita sa akin,” Jillian adds. “Sa umpisa, matatakot siya sa akin kasi nga multo ako. But later on, mare-realize niyang mabait naman ako kasi pinagtatanggol ko siya sa school bullies kaya maging best friends nga kami at tutulungan ko sila ng parents niyang sina Janno Gibbs at Manilyn Reynes sa family problems nila.”
