SEVERAL lawmakers expressed disappointment with Manny Pacquiao’s fight with American Sugar Shane Mosley.
“It was not the same Manny Pacquiao that we have seen in his previous fights,” according to Misamis Oriental Rep. Peter Unabia, stressing that he was dismayed by the performance of the Filipino champion’s opponent.
“Moseley did not want to fight. He has been bragging that he would knock Pacquiao out but failed to make good his vow when he refused and failed to give a good fight,” Unabia said.
Unabia, who chose to stay in the country rather than watch the fight in Las Vegas like several of his fellow congressmen, said he expected Moseley to slug it out with Pacquiao and deliver a “good performance like in his earlier fights.”
“I was disappointed and it would not have been my money’s worth had I gone to Vegas to watch the fight,” he said. He hoped Pacquiao will have a “worthier opponent next time.”
Paranaque City Rep. Roilo Golez was also disappointed with Moseley who he said showed “zero defense.”
Golez, a boxing champion while a cadet at the United States Naval Academy in the late 1960s, said Charice Pempengco did better when she sang the Philippine National Anthem before the bout.
Golez said Charice, a member of the cast of an American television hit show, “scored a sensational knockout” with her “technically correct and energetic” singing of the anthem.
Representatives Florencio “Bem” Noel of An Waray and Roger Mercado of Southern Leyte both expected a knockout of Moseley by their congressman-colleague but were likewise disappointed by the American’s “mediocre performance.”
