LIKE the true gentleman that he is Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald ‘Bato’ M. de la Rosa yesterday personally apologized to a GMA 7 lady reporter-news reader who was targeted by online bashers after the top cop scored her last week for ‘trying to discredit me in public.’
“Wala akong personal na galit sa iyo. Maraming naglabasan sa social media na sinupalpal kita, na binara kita but I had no real intention to embarrass you,” de la Rosa told GMA’s Mariz Umali in the middle of a press conference at Camp Crame days after the latter became a victim of online bashing when a video of the PNP chief sharply reacting to her persistent questions was uploaded on Facebook.
The top cop told Umali that he merely reacted to her sharp questions last week. “In every action, there’s a corresponding reaction. Your action requires a corresponding reaction coming from me. Pasensiya na kung masama ang dating sayo,” he said.
Umali accepted the PNP chief’s apology and asked the latter if that means the media can ask him all kinds of questions. De la Rosa’s quick reply: “Yes.”
Gen. de la Rosa maintained he is not trying to make ‘pogi points’ each time he faces the press.
“Hindi ako nagpapapogi. Kung ganon lang, hindi na ko magpe-presscon. Kelan ba ang instance na me binigay akong pre-conditions bago magpresscon,” he asked.
‘’I’m very open, very transparent at wala akong tinatago. Hindi ako natatakot na sumagot sa mga tanong because my conscience is clear,” he said.
Umali thanked the PNP chief for his humility.
