A FORMER Binibi-ning Pilipinas candidate was arrested along with a woman suspected of being a big-time drug pusher, who is allegedly maintaining a drug den, during a buy-bust operation in Sampa-loc, Manila, the other day.
Manila Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) head Chief Insp. Wilfredo Sy identified those arrested as Marife Garlit, said to be a Bb. Pilipinas candidate in 1992 in which she also won Miss Photogenic, 46, of 1566 JP Laurel St., San Miguel, Manila; and Ma. Lovella Rival, 43, of 1721 Lardizabal Ext., Sampaloc, Manila.
Rival is allegedly third in the list of wanted drug suspects being pursued by the Manila-CIDG.
Police said that at around 2:30 p.m. the other day, a buy-bust operation was conducted at 71-C M. Dela Fuente St. in Sampaloc by joint elements from the Manila CIDG, Manila Police District (MPD)-District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) and District Police Intelligence and Operations Unit (DPIOU).
Reportedly, Rival was the actual target of the operation for maintaining a drug den. Garlit’s arrest was only said to be incidental since she was in the area of operation and caught in the act of sniffing shabu right inside the drug den.
Rival yielded three plastic sachets of shabu and the P500 marked money used in the operation while cofiscated from Garlit were an aluminum foil with shabu residue and several paraphernalia for drug use, along with two plastic sachets of shabu.
The two suspects are now facing drug charges before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
