CARRANGLAN, Nueva Ecija -- An incumbent barangay kagawad cheated death after he was shot and wounded by unidentified riding-in-tandem gunmen here last Thursday night.

Provincial police director Senior Supt. Manuel E. Cornel identified the wounded barangay official as Ferrer Cayetano, of Bgy. Piut, this town.

He sustained gunshot wounds in the right chest and right arm.

Police said two RIT gunmen attacked him while he was sitting in front of his house in Sitio Guisang at 8 p.m.

Probers said Cayetano, despite already bloodied, still managed to run and seek cover as the suspects fled.

Cornel said a witness, identified as David Carlos, neighbor of the victim, saw the fleeing suspects but could not immediately identify them since the place was too dark.

Police recovered at the scene five empty shells and a slug for cal. 45 pistol. They said the motive for the attack has yet to be established.
