LOS BAÑOS, Laguna -- Host University of the Philippines-Los Baños outsteadied San Sebastian College, 58-53, while San Pedro College and Business Administration humbled University of Perpetual Help System Dalta-Calamba, 81-70, to keep their hopes alive in the Laguna Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (LACUAA) basketball tournament at the Copeland gym here Sunday.
John Albert Torre, John Carl Velez, Tiel Villar, Ramon Angelo Dimasupil and Paul Martin Cruz joined hands to power UPLB to its third win in six matches in this seven-team tournament organized by LACUAA founding president Leonardo “Ding” Andres.
Torre and Velez finished with 13 points apiece, followed by Villar with 10 and Dimasupil with eight for UPLB of coach Dionisio Banaay III.
Jeniel Gastador paced SSC with 21 markers.
The Mark Christopher Buhain-mentored SSC team also got support from Jemuel Gastador (12), John Vincent Merciales (4), Alex Castillo (4) and Mark Kevin Maunahan (4).
Half time score was 38-22 for UPLB.
SPCBA rode on the hot hands of Klent Jan Galuz to frustrate UPHSD.
Galuz mocked all defenders to score 35 points for SPCB, which is being handled by coach Richard Peñaranda.
Also contributing for SPCBA were Patrick Rhon Igonia (19), Mike Chester Calingasan (11), Jose Julio Manay (8) and Kim Lawrence Roy (6).
Leading UPHSD’s losing cause were Jade Rafael Naraga (16), Junthel Aries Namo (12), Al Sadam Garcia (12), Noriel Ian De Torres (9) and Dharyl Ocdamia (8).
In other results, Colegio San Agustin-Biñan defeated SSC-R, 53-42 and Calamba Institute-Calamba edged Calamba Institute-Canlubang, 62-61, in the high school division; and Don Bosco College-Canlubang nipped De La Salle University-Integrated School, 65-60, in the elementary category.
