FIFTEEN Philippine junior team members carrying the colors of Meralco/MVP Sports Foundation will vie for honors in the 2016 World Junior Taekwondo Championships on November 16-20 in Burnaby, Canada.
The Filipino athletes are:
Male – Gabriel Elpidio Lamacra, who is competing in the -45-kilogram category; Raymundo Alomboro III (-48 kg), Carlo Dominic Dionisio (-51 kg), Gian Carlo Gutierrez (-55 kg), Sal Luigi Estrada (-59 kg), Harley Vincent Santos (-63 kg), Gabriel Salaknib Soria (-68 kg) and Alvaro Joaquin Aranton (-78 kg).
Female – Ezra Balingit (-42 kg), Abigail Faye Valdez (-44 kg), Veronica Garces (-46 kg), Baby Jessica Canabal (-40 kg), Beatrice Kassandra Gaerlan (-52 kg), Florence Mae Chavez (-55 kg) and Laila Delo (-63 kg).
Manuel Monsour del Rosario III will head the team while Dindo Simpao and Napoleon Dagdagan are the coaches.
The Philippines has always been regarded as one of the top contenders in international taekwondo events. In Canada, the Filipinos will strut their stuff against the best junior jins from 75 countries like Korea, France, Spain, Iran, Turkey, the United States, China and Chinese Taipei.
The Filipinos’ participation will serve as a tune up for the 2017 Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships scheduled in Uzbekistan.
