EMILIO Aguinaldo College and Philippine Air Force took different paths before beating  their respective opponents in  the  2016   MBL Open basketball tournament at the EAC Sports Center.

EAC  hardly worked out a sweat  in beating Jamfy Pioneers-Secret Spices, 137-105, for its third straight win while Air Force rallied to beat Wang’s Ballclub, 96-89, for a 2-1 record.

Jerome Garcia, Jethro Mendoza and Juju  Bautista scored almost at will for EAC, which led from start to finish in this seven-team tournament sponsored by Smart Sports, Ironcon Builders, Dickies Underwear, Star Bread and Gerry’s Grill.

Garcia scattered 24 points, Mendoza added 21 and Bautista contributed 16 for the Ariel Sison-mentored Generals, who settled the outcome of the game behind a  barrage of baskets right in the opening minutes.

Three other mainstays  --  Jeanu Gano,  Haspee Altiche and Sidney Onwubere  --  also came through with double-digit scores to underscore EAC’s balanced firepower.

Former Cagayan Rising Stars standout James Castro and Mel Mabigat carried the fight for Jamfy with 28 and 22 points, respectively.

Air Force took a difficult route to victory.

Darwin Cordero scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half as Air Force battled back from an early 19-point deficit (13-32) to pull the rug from under Wang’s Ballclub.

Cordero, a native of Zamboanga City, struck hardest in the third quarter where he scored 14 of 23 third-quarter points by Air Force of PAFCG Lt.Gen. Edgar Fallorina, Col. Elpidio Talja and LTC Nestor Etis.

Jerry  Lumongsod added 13 and Paulino Rebollos had 12 for the Jet Force, which is being handled by interim coach Jimmy Andaya.
