Bgy. captain, 5 others arrested in war on drugs in provinces

A barangay captain in Pangasinan and five others were arrested in separate anti-drug operations in provinces this week.

Pangasinan Police Provincial Office director Senior Superintendent Ronald O. Lee identified the arrested suspects as Boyet Geronimo alias “Bagets,” 35, chairman of Bgy. Potiocan in Malasiqui; and Joel Nery and Mario NuevaEspana, both residents of Agno town.

Geronimo was arrested after he sold P500

worth of shabu to an undercover officer in Bgy. Bolait in Malasiqui. Seized from the village official were a plastic sachet containing suspected shabu and the marked money.

In Agno, Pangasinan local police simultaneously served three search warrants for violation of RA 9165 and RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 issued by Judge Maria Ellen Aguilar of the Burgos Regional Trial Court Branch 70.

Lee said Nery, of Bgy. Boboy, was arrested after the raiders found a sachet of shabu in his residence while NuevaEspana was arrested at his house in Bgy. Poblacion East after officers recovered five sachets of shabu and assorted drug paraphernalia. Another suspect identified as Hannibal Medrano escaped is still being hunted. Lee said that four sachets of shabu were recovered inside Medrano’s suspect’s place.
   
In Caraga region in Mindanao, two known drug personalities were nabbed by members of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in a buy-bust in Surigao City on Wednesday, PNP-CIDG director Chief Sup. Roel B. Obusan said yesterday.
   
Suspects Limuel Veriña,32; and John Patajo,25, were arrested during an entrapment in Purok 7, Barangay San Juan in Surigao City around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Obusan said.
   
Members of the CIDG Surigao del Norte, with the assistance of the local police seized four plastic sachets containing at least 10 grams of shabu worth P50,000, several drug paraphernalia and the marked money paid to the suspects by an undercover officer during the sting, according CIDG Region 13 chief Supt. Agosto Daskeo.  Veriña has been described as a “high-value” drug target in Surigao del Norte prior to his arrest.
   
Meanwhile, the no. 7 most wanted drug dealer in Aurora province was arrested the other day.
   
Chief Insp. Bayani Balbuena, commander of Ma. Aurora town, identified the suspect as Diomar Valle, 36.
   
Balbuena said he was nabbed Saturday evening in Barangay Florida, Maria Aurora town.
   
Seized from the suspect were three plastic sachets containing alleged shabu, P500 marked money and a motorcycle.
