A convicted drug pusher, who was just released from detention, and her live-in partner, who has a pending drug case, were nabbed during police’s anti-illegal drug operation in Mandaue City, Monday.
The suspects were identified as William Tantan, 44, and Maricel Alforque, 44, both of Zone Paliya, Bgy. Pakna-an, Mandaue City, according to Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas, Mandaue City police director.
Alanas said Tantan was convicted for drug pushing and had just been released from New Bilibid Prison (NBP) while the woman has an ongoing case for illegal drugs in a Mandaue court.
The operation was conducted after a week of surveillance by city police under “Oplan Texthang” wherein residents are encouraged to inform police through text message about illegal drug activities in their area.
The couple, according to information, continued their drug peddling activities and even use their house for shabu repacking and openly sell drugs in the neighborhood.
A team from the Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB), headed Supt. Melbert Glade Castro Esguerra, armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Mercedita Dadole Ygnacio, of Mandaue City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 28 swooped down on the house of the couple at 5 p.m. and caught the suspects in the act of repacking shabu.
Recovered from them were sachets containing suspected shabu and drug paraphenalia, P28,919 and assorted cellphones believed used in their drug transactions.
Alanas said more anti-illegal drug operations will be conducted to eradicate the area of big-time drug personalities based on the directive of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
The suspects were detained at the Mandaue City detention cell, facing charges of violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
