LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- Completed in just one year but parts of the newly-constructed Sinucalan Bridge in Sta. Barbara town had shown defects.
District Engineer Marietta Mendoza, of the Pangasinan 4th DPWH Engineering Office, said they immediately placed steel plates at the damaged portion to enable motorists to pass over it.
“No need to close the entire bridge,” she said.
At the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Monday, Mendoza explained that the contractor, Northern Builders of Tarlac, had started to “remove and replace” works at the damaged areas.
“Dahil covered ito ng one-year warranty at five-year observation period on its strength, anumang diperensyang lalabas ay sagutin ng contractor ang repairs nito. Walang babayaran ang gobyerno,” she said.
Mendoza further said they consulted the DPWH-Region 1 on the procedures on what to do and were advised the use of special mix and special sealant.
“We will maximize repair sa lahat ng naming dapat i-correct. Nakaalalay din ang structural engineering at quality assurance departments ng regional office,” she added.
The construction of the Sinucalan Bridge located at the third district of Pangasinan was funded and implemented by the DPWH Central Office during the Aquino administration.
