SEVEN suspected drug personalities were killed Friday night and before dawn yesterday in separate shooting incidents allegedly perpetrated by the vigilante group “Caloocan Death Squad” in Caloocan City.
Caloocan police chief Senior Supt. Johnson Almazan said Sherwin Casiracan, 31, of 1333 Saint Martin St., Barracks II, Barangay 186, was driving his tricycle along Quirino Highway at around 3 a.m. yesterday when two men on a motorcycle blocked his path and shot him but missed.
The victim managed to run but he was chased by the suspects and when cornered in front of Christ Baruga Compound, Quirino Highway, Pangarap Village, he was shot repeatedly in the body, killing him instantly.
Residents in the area told police that the victim was involved in illegal drug activities.
Four empty shells for caliber .9mm pistol and one empty shell for caliber .45 pistol were recovered by police from the crime scene.
Earlier at around 11 p.m. Friday, Anthony Abada, 44, was inside his shanty along General Simon St., Bgy. 81, when three armed men wearing bonnets and masks shot him repeatedly in the body, causing his untimely death.
Kagawad Dennis Valeda, 40, of Barangay 81 told homicide investigator PO3 Edgar Manapat that the victim was a known drug user in the area and recently surrendered to the police during “Oplan Tokhang” but failed to stop using illegal drugs and used his shanty as a drug den.
In Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, Romel Brusas, 33, of Phase 4, Package 5, Block 28, was walking along the road of Phase 4 at around 10:45 p.m. when he was shot repeatedly in the body by alleged members of the vigilante group.
The victim, according to his neighbors, was involved in illegal drug activities. Two empty shells for unknown caliber of firearm were recovered by police from the crime scene.
At around 7 p.m., Jeffrey Rivero, 31, of Block 20, Lot 13 Evergreen Gaya-Gaya, Bulacan, was on board his driven motorcycle and traversing along Phase 4, Packaged 8, in Barangay 176, Bagong Silang, when two riding-in-tandem suspects, both wearing masks and helmets, blocked his path and shot him repeatedly in the body that caused his instantaneous death. Police recovered from the crime scene five empty shells and a deformed slug for an unknown type of firearm.
Thirty minutes after Rivero was shot dead, Karl Cenen Volante, 24, was inside his house at 2064 Waling-Waling Street, Barangay 175, Camarin, when two alleged members of vigilante group, both wearing bonnets and masks, destroyed his wooden door, forcibly barged in and shot him repeatedly in the body.
The suspects fled on board a single motorcycle towards the direction of Fairview in Quezon City while the victim was rushed by his relatives to Commonwealth Hospital where he succumbed to bullet wounds in the body past 9 p.m. while undergoing surgical operation.
Neighbors of Volante told police that the victim was involved in illegal drug activities.
Also in Camarin, Analiza Piedraverde, 38, and his younger brother Erick, 28, were inside their house at Phase 6, Package 2, Yakal St., Barangay 178, together with their father Pepito when two armed men, both wearing bonnets and masks, barged in at around 6:30 p.m. by destroying their wooden main door.
Once inside, the suspects shot the victims several times in the body in front of their horrified father, killing them instantly.
Elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered five empty shells and a deformed slug for caliber .45 pistol from the crime scene which will be submitted to PNP Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination.
