ST. DOMINIC Savio College came back strong to bring down Immaculada Concepcion College, 88-82, and Manuel Luis Quezon University, 98-91, in the sixth Universities, Colleges and Schools Athletic Association (UCSAA) basketball tournament at Don Bosco gym in Mandaluyong City.
Five players, led by Pineda and Jacinto, shared scoring honors for the Quezon City-based Unicorns of UCSAA president Dr. Nestor V. de la Cruz in the victory against ICC.
Pineda topscored with 16 points, followed by Jacinto, Dumas and Garcia with 12 points apiece.
SDSC drew double-digit scores from Pineda (28), Cruz (19), Lituania (18), Dumas (14) and Rivera (10) to pull the rug from under erstwhile unbeaten MLQU.
The twin victories enabled SDSC to climb onto a tie for third place with a 2-2 win-loss record behind MLQU and host De La Salle Araneta University.
SDSC dropped its first two matches against Pasig Catholic College, 89-92, last Oct.1 and DLSAU, 65-68, last Sept. 24.
Last Oct. 8, MLQU humbled PCC, 90-83, for its fourth straight win at the PCC gym.
Mallari, Jayson Grimaldo and Angob carried the fight for the Stallions.
DLSAU relied on a balanced scoring attack to roll back Don Bosco Technical College, 87-64.
The La Sallians relied on Pangilinan (13), Aquino (12), and Correche (10) to improve their record to 3-1.
DBTC, which fell to 2-3, was paced by Carandang( 31), Dankin (11) and Ramilo (11).
In another game, Immaculada Concepcion College edged PCC, 89-87, for its first win after four consecutive losses.
Icaro paced ICC with 18 points, followed by Udoca with 16 and Fajardo with 15.
Pinili and De Castro led PCC with 20 and 13 points, respectively.
In the high school division, PCC whipped ICC, 95-61, for its third straight win in the four-team tournament.
Laxa, Geronimo and Olesca combined for 41 points for PCC.
