A Manila policeman was killed early yesterday morning by the owner of the boarding house where he lives, when he tried to pacify the latter and his live-in partner, who were then arguing inside their home in Malate, Manila.

Dead on the spot due to six gunshot wounds in the back was PO1 Alwin Kirk Gonzales, assigned at the Manila Police District-Station 9 and residing at 143-A Balagtas St., Malate, Manila.

The suspect, identified as Eli Matthan Sumampong, alias ‘Jonathan’, 33, a businessman and residing at 2909 City Land Tower I, Pablo Ocampo St., Malate, Manila, escaped.

A probe by PO3 Ryan Jay Balagtas of the MPD-Homicide Section said the shooting took place at around 2:30 a.m. at the hallway leading to the victim’s room.

Prior to the incident, the cop reportedly pacified the suspect and his partner, identified as Girly Espinosa, whom he saw arguing. When the two stopped fighting, the cop left them and headed straight to his rented room.

Unknown to him, the suspect followed him and then shot him repeatedly in the back as he was about to open the door of his room.

Police are looking into the possibility that the suspect may have been jealous of the victim.
