Few, we guess, Ian F., know that Lav Diaz, now a highly-acclaimed film director even in the international scene, used to edit the entertainment section of a now-defunct tabloid (Taliba, sister publication ng People’s Tonight. -- IFF).
He also directed a few films for Mother Lily Monteverde’s Regal Films.
How time flies and how lucky Lav has been just like Charo Santos-Concio, his lead actress in his latest obra, Ang Babaeng Humayo (The Woman Who Left), which won this year’s Golden Lion Award in the 73rd Venice International Film Festival.
Direk Lav is currently not in town. He is in Boston and will reportedly be away for eight months.
Binigyan kasi siya ng Radcliff Fellowship ng Harvard University.
Grabe. More power, Direk Lav!

Tanong lang, Ian F.: Is it true that Alden Richards was purposely ousted sa dapat sana’y gagawin niyang series with Jennylyn Mercado, the adaptation of the Korean novela My Love from the Star, dahil mas ginusto ng execs ng GMA-7 na unahing gawin ang isang soap na magtatambal sa kanila ni Maine Mendoza?
Ito rin bang supposed first Alden-Maine teleserye ang magiging first project ni Kris Aquino bilang non-Kapamilya talent?
Hoy, repeat ko, Ian F.: Nagtatanong lang...

If Janice de Belen and John Estrada are grinning from ear-to-ear these days, it is because maganda ang review na natatanggap ng kanilang anak na si Inah de Belen sa first full-length series nito with GMA-7, ang Oh, My Mama.
Kahit pa ang kanyang mga co-star, specifically leading man Jake Vargas, have good words to say about her.
’Di lang daw marunong umarte si Inah, mabait pa.
Janice and John, meanwhile, are both busy din with respective assignments.
Janice plays Erich Gonzales’ mom in the pre-afternoon series, Be My Lady, which stars Daniel Matsunaga, Geoff Eigenmann, Ali Tantay, RK Bagatsing and young talents Yves Flores and Luisa Andalio.
Also in the cast is Priscilla Meirelles-Estrada, John’s wife, who plays Daniel’s mom naman.
Of John, he plays a semi-kontrabida role sa kabubukas na soap ng ABS-CBN na Magpahanggang Wakas, co-starring him with Jericho Rosales, Arci Muñoz, Rita Avila, Liza Lorena, Lito Pimentel and former sister-in-law Gelli de Belen, gumaganap bilang estranged wife niya.
Others featured are young stars Marco Gumabao and Jomari Angeles.
Introducing naman si Maika Rivera, na tubong-Australia pero matatas mag-Tagalog.
