COMBINED elements of Special Reaction Unit (SRU) and Intelligence Unit of Navotas City police conducted a surprised shakedown inspection at the detention cell after a duty police officer foiled an attempted smuggled of handgun magazine with ammunition Sunday afternoon.

Navotas police chief Senior Supt. Dante Novicio said Jeraldine Zepida, 20, of 27 Lot 1, Anthurium St., Bgy. NBBS, and his neighbor Orlando Capuz Jr., 19, were arrested by PO1 Jay-R. Mawi-it and PO1 Melvin Laceste when they tried to sneak into the detention cell a magazine for  cal. .45 loaded with ammunition placed inside a paper bag.

The two, according to Novicio, were about to visit Ariel Joverez, who is facing charges for violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 at around 3 p.m.

Navotas police deputy chief for operation Supt. Bernabe Embile said they immediately conducted a shakedown inspection inside the detention cell after the arrest of the suspects.   “Baka kasi piyesa-piyesa kung ipasok nila ang armas at sa loob na nila ia-assemble,” Embile said.

During the course of inspection, three cellphones with chargers, disposable lighters and improvised equipment for tattoo markings were recovered inside the detention cell.

Embile said the shakedown inspection ended past 9 p.m. with no untoward incident.
