TWO wanted guns-for hire in Metro Manila and the Calabarzon region were captured by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group following a brief gunbattle in Iloilo City, a report to PNP-CIDG director Chief Supt. Roel Obusan said yesterday.
One of the suspects identified as Aslani Ansari was wounded after exchanging fire with members of the CIDG Region 6 in Leophil Subdivision in Bgy. Ticud, Lapaz, Iloilo City.
Local CIDG chief Supt. Christopher Acop said Ansari fired his gun at the CIDG men who were about to serve a warrant for his arrest prompting the officers to return fire.
Ansari was taken to the Don Benito Memorial Hospital for treatment under heavy police guard.
Ansari’s companion, Alex Mapandi, surrendered after seeing his colleague wounded. Mapandi yielded a loaded caliber 9mm semi-automatic pistol with two magazines containing several ammunition.
Ansari was found in possession of a cal. .38 revolver and a plastic sachet containing suspected shabu.
According to Acop, the two suspects are both wanted for murder and are listed as level 3 drug suspects in Western Visayas. He added that the two are also suspected to be professional hitmen operating in the National Capital Region, Cavite and other parts of Calabarzon region.
