THE Philippines yesterday condemned North Korea’s latest missile launch.
In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the launch not only violates the resolution of the United Nations Security Council but also affects peace and stability in the region.
“The Philippines condemns DPRK’s latest missile launch on 05 September 2016. This launch clearly violates UNSC resolutions and further raises tensions and seriously undermines regional peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula.”
The DFA reiterated its call on North Korea to comply with its international obligations under relevant UN Security Council resolutions and to adhere to the process of constructive dialogue.
On Friday, North Korea said it has successfully tested a nuclear warhead drawing condemnation from the South which said the “maniacal recklessness” of young ruler Kim Jong-Un would lead to self-destruction.
Pyongyang’s state media said the test, which comes after a series of ballistic missile launches that have drawn international condemnation and UN sanctions, had achieved its goal of being able to fit a miniaturized nuclear warhead on a rocket.
