THE Department of Justice (DOJ) has tasked a three-man team to assist in the ongoing probe to determine and file criminal charges against those involved in last Friday’s bomb blast in Davao City that left 14 people dead and 60 others injured.
The members of the team include Regional Prosecutor Janet Grace Fabrero (Region 11), Davao City Prosecutor Nestor Ledesma and lawyer Ronald Rosales of the National Bureau of Investigation-Southeastern Mindanao Regional Office.
“In the interest of public service and pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, the following personnel... are hereby directed to coordinate with each other and with personnel from other law enforcement agencies with regard to the investigation of the September 2, 2016 explosion in Davao City, and to submit their periodic report to Undersecretary Antonio Kho Jr.,” Aguirre said in his Department Order No. 585.
Aguirre earlier assured that justice will be served to the families of the victims of the bomb blast.
Aguirre said a task force composed of operatives from the NBI and prosecutors from the DOJ will be formed to investigate the terror attack and file criminal charges against the perpetrators.
The Abu Sayyaf terrorist group had issued a statement admitting responsibility over the latest bombing.
The ASG was responsible for several kidnap-for-ransom incidents involving foreigners and locals and deadly bombings in Mindanao.
“The perpetrators will be brought to justice. We are one with the President in this fight against terrorism and lawlessness,” Aguirre said.
“We cannot let this pass. The perpetrators should be meted the corresponding punishment under our penal laws. We will cooperate with the other law enforcement agencies on this concerted effort to flesh out the persons responsible,” Aguirre said.
