AN unidentified gunman killed a village chief-turned-‘high-value’ drug target in Tayug, Pangasinan, past 9 a.m. yesterday before fleeing, police said.

The victim, identified as Reynel Carpio, of Purok 1, Bgy. Libertad, Tayug, suffered gunshot wounds in the body and died while being taken to Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital, said a report from the Tayug Municipal Police Station.
Pangasinan police director Senior Supt. Ronald O. Lee said he has ordered a thorough investigation into the gun attack which came in the wake of a series of successful anti-narcotics operations in the province since last Saturday.
In a report to Police Regional Office 1 director Chief Supt. Gregorio R. Pimentel, Lee said that more than a dozen known drug dealers in the province were arrested in buy-bust operations, service of search warrants and police checkpoint operations.
In San Carlos City, policemen under Supt. Nestor Cusi yesterday morning raided the houses of Fernando Mendoza, 37, a bamboo draft maker who recently surrendered to the local police  as a result of Oplan: Tokhang, and Pelito Salvador, 37, and arrested the duo after they recovered a total of five sachets of shabu, assorted drug paraphernalia, a packet of dried marijuana leaves, a cal. .38 revolver without serial number and assorted live ammunition.
