A septuagenarian woman was killed while 15 others, including three children, were seriously injured when a passenger jeepney collided with a motorcycle Monday afternoon in Caloocan city.
Constacia Cacal, 78, of 77-H Estano St., Tugatog, Malabon City, succumbed to massive head and body injuries while being treated at Manila Central University (MCU) Hospital while 15 others, including the jeepney driver, were rushed to different hospitals.
Caloocan police chief Senior Supt. Johnson Almazan identified the injured as Janella Maine Cudisal, 11 months old, Cyrus Aquino, 2, Wilver Adrian Roldan, 5, Gean Cudisal, 26, Annie Marie Castro, 55, Olga Mariaga, 27, Arlyn Roldan, 43, Wilbert Roldan, 43, Novelyn Balisacan, 33, Chirstine Damerin, 19, Aileen Darjuan, 23, Ronie Boy Aquino, 23, Sherwin Antonio, 21, Jeffrey Alintin, 21, and jeepney driver Boyet Lucero.
Traffic investigator PO2 Chester Racelis said the unidentified driver of Yamaha motorcycle (2897-UJ) was missing and presumably escaped after being treated at the hospital.
Police said the incident happened at 2:15 p.m. while the jeepney driven by Lucero and the motorcycle were racing along Araneta Avenue.
Upon reaching near the Joy Emission Testing Center, the two vehicles collided with each other, throwing the MC driver off his vehicle to the center portion of the road while Lucero lost control of the steering wheel, hit the wooden electric post before crashing into a metal post and steel gate of the testing center.
Caloocan City Rescue Team, barangay officials and concerned citizens in the area rushed the victims to MCU Hospital, Caloocan City Medical Center, National Orthopedic Center and Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
Lucero and the unidentified driver of the motorcycle will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries and damaged to properties before the Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office.
