LIPA City -- A 44-year-old driver died when the tricycle he was driving was hit by a speeding tire which disengaged from a speeding truck in Bgy. Banay-Banay, here, the other day.
Lipa police chief Supt. Carlos Barde identified the victim as Edgar Beron Landig, 44, of Bgy. Adya, Lipa City.
Bgy. Banay-Banay Chairman Manuel Dimatatac reported the incident to the Lipa City PS.
PO3 Edwin Mojado Navarro and PO2 Troadio Briones Acuña said that at 4:30 a.m. the other day, a Yamaha tricycle with “for registration” plate and driven by Landig was travelling along Bgy. Banay-Banay when the outside tire of the truck with the unknown plate number and driven by an unidentified driver disengaged and rolled on fast and hit the tricycle.
At that instance, the tricycle continuously sped towards the road shoulder before it hit a water meter.
The report said the tire kept rolling until it rammed the steel gate of the house of Fritzie Bawal Tenorio and damaged her Honda City (VDX 525) which was parked on the sidewalk.
After the incident, the truck driver fled towards San Jose, Batangas.
The trike driver sustained injury and was taken to Metro San Jose Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival by an attending physician. Landig’s body now lies at the hospital morgue.
