SAN BEDA capped its maiden Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference stint a memorable one as it toppled NCAA champion College of Saint Benilde, 25-16, 25-21, 25-20, yesterday at the Philsports Arena.
With nothing at stake but pride, the Lady Red Spikers started hot as Janine Marciano puts in an ace which gave the Mendiola-based squad an 11-2 lead en route to taking the opening frame.
The Lady Blazers made the game close in the second and third frame but San Beda showed tremendous composure to finish Group B with a 1-3 card in fourth spot.
Marciano fired four service aces to finish with 16 points while Cesca Racraquin added 11 points.
Jeanette Panaga led St. Benilde with 10 points while guest player Jannine Navarro scored all of her eight points from attacks.
The Lady Blazers wound up last in their group, going winless in all of their four assignments, putting their title-retention bid in the NCAA in doubt.
In the Spikers’ Turf, defending champion Ateneo defeated NCBA, 25-20, 25-16, 28-26, for its third straight win in Group B, while FEU downed PMMS, 25-19, 25-16, 25-23, to improve its record at 2-1 in Group A.
