2 drug suspects die in clash

JOINT operatives from the Manila Police District and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) killed two drug suspects who allegedly engaged them in an armed encounter in Ermita, Manila, yesterday morning.

The fatalities were identified as Jommel Opaque, 35, of 740-H Balingkit St., Leveriza, Malate, and Roderick Salazar, 43, of 1801 Int. 54, Bo. Sta. Maria, Sta. Ana, Manila.
Chief Insp. Wilfredo Valerio Sy, chief of the CIDG-Manila, said the shootout took place at around 2 a.m. on Magallanes Street in Lawton, Ermita.
Recovered from Opaque were a 9mm pistol, a magazine, 10 pieces of P500 bills in marked money, a cellphone and three plastic sachets of shabu worth P15,000.    Found on Salazar were a .38 cal. gun with three live ammunition, P370 cash and five sachets of shabu.
Det. Marlon San Pedro of the MPD-Crime Against Persons Investigation Section said a buy-bust was being conducted when the suspects sensed they were dealing with cops. They pulled out their guns and tried o fire at the police who returned fire, killing the two suspects instantly.
