THIRTY-TWO policemen and 27 local chief executives yesterday turned themselves in at Camp Crame headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP), to deny involvement in the illegal drug trade, a day after President Rodrigo Duterte publicly announced their names on his list of narco personalities.
The local chief executives and policemen were met by PNP chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa in the PNP Multipurpose Hall.
The police officers were turned over to the PNP- Internal Affairs Service (IAS) while the mayors proceeded to the PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
One of the 32 policemen who surrendered was already retired, 15 of them were officials and 16 others were non-commissioned personnel.
According to PNP-IAS Director Chief Supt Leo Angelo Eleuterio, 31 of the 32 cops will not be allowed to return to their assignments and will undergo investigation.
