A DAVAO City aluminum/glass installer who secretly recorded his and her former girlfriend’s sexual trysts and threatened to upload the video on Facebook if she will not have sex with him again was arrested in an entrapment operation by cybercops from the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group last Thursday, PNP-ACG director, Senior Superintendent Reczon Tito T. Acabado announced yesterday.

Acabado said suspect Ronald Omambat was arrested during a sting conducted inside the GV Hotel in Poblacion District, Davao City around 11 a.m. last July 28 by members of the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Office 11 with the assistance of the Davao City Police Office.

The entrapment operation was launched after the suspect’s ex-girlfriend sought the RACO 11 assistance in going after Omambat. The complainant identified only as ‘Maria’ said that the suspect sent her a message thru her Facebook account messenger telling her he will upload their sex videos if she will not agree to have sexual intercourse with him again.

Acabado said that an investigation conducted by the RACO 11  showed that the suspect and the complainant broke up after a four-year intimate relationship a few months ago. Early this month, the suspect started blackmailing the victim.

The PNP-ACG director said the arresting team seized three cellular phones during the operation ANTI-phone which were redeemed by the PNP-ACG after the suspect confessed to his crime.

The suspect has been charged before the Davao City Prosecutor’s Office for violation of Republic Act 9995 or An Act Defining and Penalizing the Crime of Photo and Video Voyeurism and prescribing penalties therefore.

“This is the third incident involving victims being blackmailed after their private activities were secretly recorded by their partners which we have investigated since I assumed my duty as PNP-ACG director,” Acabado said.

The official said these incidents should serve as a lesson to the public to observe utmost care in using the internet, their cellular phones and other gadgets to avoid similar incidents.

“As we all know that the worldwide web (www) can be accessed anywhere and we are now in a borderless community. We are responsible in whatever actions we do in the Internet and it can make or break you as a person, Acabado said.
