STAR Group of Publications extended its winning streak to five games,   beating Gerry’s Grill, 79-68,  in  the Mandaluyong City Athletic Association (MCAA) 2012 Cong. Neptali “Boyet” Gonzales  Cup  basketball tournament at the RTU gym in  Boni Ave., Mandaluyong City.

The Starmen rode on Nino Sangalang,  Gio Coquilla, Dennis Rodriguez and Christopher Corbin  to secure  their  fifth straight win in this nine-team tournament organized by Mikel Perey and supported by Cong. Gonzales and  RTU president Jesus Torres.

Sangalang finished with 21 points , while Rodriguez, Coquilla and  Corbin contributed 10 points  apiece.

Daniel Martinez topscored with 17 points for Gerry’s Grill, which  fell  to  third  place behind Star and  PNP Lead.

Veteran  Rommel  David added  12 points  and Alwyn Cabonce contributed 10 points.

In  the only  other game,  PNP Lead defeated Beng  Pablo, 94-89, for its  third win in as many matches.

Former University of the East standout Ollan Omiping joined hands  with Jayman Misola and former  PBA player  Estong  Ballesteros in leading   PNP  to solo second place.

Omiping, a 6-2 guard, topscored with 15 points, followed by Misola and  Ballesteros with 10 points each.

Nino Juan carried  the  fight    for Beng  Pablo with a  tournament-high 48 points.

Beng  Pablo dropped to 2-4 win-loss.

Former  national  team   coach  Arlene  Rodriguez is the   commissioner  while  Rene  Manalac is the deputy commissioner.
