EX-PRO Jonathan Aldave of Wang’s Ballclub emerged as the leading scorer at the end of the elimination round of the MBL Invitational basketball championship at the Lyceum gym in Intramuros, Manila.
Aldave, who played for Talk N Text in the PBA, finished with 99 points in five games for an average of 19.8 points a game for the Mandaluyong-based team of coach Pablo Lucas and owner-manager Alex Wang.
Another ex-pro, Jeffrey Sanders of Skyforce, finished second with 74 points in four games for an average of 18.5 points a game.
Jose Rizal University standout Nate Matute was the leading collegiate scorer with 104 points in six games or an average of 17.3 ppg.
Former Central Colleges of the Philippines standout Mark Pangilinan of Investwell and Robert Sanz of MOB finished fourth and fifth in the scoring roll, respectively.
Pangilinan finished with 111 points in seven games or an average of 15.8 points a game, while Sanz wound up with 77 points in five games for an average of 15.4 ppg.
Completing the Top 10 were Decoy Lopez of JRU, 15 ppg (90 points/six games); Aljohn Mariano of University of Santo Tomas-Ironcon Builders, 14.5 ppg ( 87 points in six games); Chris Cayabyab of Lyceum of the Philippines-Yummy Hotdogs, 13.8 ppg ( 83 points in six games); Jonathan Pinera of Wang’s Ballclub, 13.7 ppg (55 points in four games); and Mark Cruz of Letran College, 13.2 ppg ( 53 points in four games).
Two of college basketball’s biggest stars -- Kevin Alas of Letran and Jeric Teng of UST-Ironcon -- also made their presence felt despite limited action.
Alas, the Knight’s most prolific scorer in the NCAA, scoed 33 points in only two games for an average of 16.5 points per game.
And Teng, the most dependable scorer in coach Pido Jarencio’s star-studded UST-Ironcon line-up, had 25 points in two games for an average of 12.5 points a game.
Former Purefoods mainstay Boyet Bautista had a game-high 24 points in one game for MOB of coach Yong Garcia.
