The defending champion College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers and the National University Lady Bulldogs repulsed separate rivals last Saturday to earn seats in the women’s division finals of the 8th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open Cup.

The Lady Blazers needed to exert more effort in the fourth period as they fended off the Adamson Falcons, 55-51, while the Lady Bulldogs prevailed over the Lyceum Philippines University Lady Pirates, 53-48, at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium.

The two teams advanced to the winner-take-all-finals on Saturday, and they will meet at 10 a.m.

The Lady Falcons, who were unbeaten during the elimination round, led for three quarters, and struggled until the Lady Blazers limited the scoring of Angel Ortega, who had 19.

Two triples from Marie Kristine Madrid did the trick for the Lady Blazers later in the fourth period allowed them to stay in front at the end of the game.

Kristine Joi Tolentino and Eden Kaye Alla led the Lady Bulldogs to their first ever finals stint in the tournament with 18 and 13 points respectively.
