Fil-Am Hawaii, Intramuros win


DAVAO CITY  --  Fil-Am Hawaii and Club Intramuros emerged as division champions at the close of the Philippine Airlines Interclub seniors golf team championships Sunday.

Fil-Am Hawaii topped the Sportswriters division, holding off Davao and Chamorro while Intramuros posted a runaway 53-point win in the Friendship class.

Pat Viernes posted 47 points at the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club to power Fil-Am Hawaii’s six-point triumph over Davao.

With Wilfred Pacpaco and Buddy Gendrano adding 32 and 28 points, respectively, Fil-Am Hawaii finished the four-day event with 479 points.

Davao came up short despite collecting 121 points from Nick Olarte (43), Jimmy Testado (39) and Oscar Lopez (39), but edged last year’s winner Chamorro by one for third place.

Chamorro drew 41 points from Ben Palomo and a pair of 33s from John Camaco and Frank Cruz.

Intramuros, on the other hand, stamped its class with 442 points, including 119 at the Apo Golf and Country Club.

Scoring for Intramuros were Rupert Bayocot (44), Manny Luzon (41) and Rocky Umeda (34).

Fil-Am Florida was a poor second with 389. The scorers were Alex Bordallo (37), Hector Vargas (33) and Alex Bautista (29).

Third place went to Southbay with 384 points. Counting for the team were Roger Remonde (37), John Cabatingan (32) and Hermin Javier (29).

The championship division was won by Canlubang while Manila Golf Club ruled the Founders’ bracket.

The men’s Interclub starts on Wednesday with Del Monte Golf Club defending its title.

The platinum sponsors of the 65th PAL Interclub are Mareco Broadcasting Network, Radio High, Stargate Media, Media Five, GE while the major backers are Asia Brewery, Business Mirror and Airbus.
