THE Philippine Azkals hammered out a 3-1 win over Al Ahli Sports Club in the continuation of their tour in Doha, Qatar on Monday night (early Tuesday morning in Manila).
Phil Younghusband struck in the 9th and 53rd minutes for the Azkals, who drew a 45th minute goal from their new member Denis Wolf.
“The adjustments were manifested in this game. Preparations are moving in right direction,” said national team manager Dan Palami.
Al Ahli’s French coach Simoni Bernard was impressed the way the Azkals played this time, unlike in their first outing.
“Good movement, very strong,” said Bernard.
The Azkals, who are girding up for next month’s AFC Challenge Cup, suffered a 0-3 beating from the hands of Uzbekistan Olympic under-23 team at the start of their tour over the weekend.
The Azkals cap their camp against Australia’s Qantas Under-23 tomorrow before returning to Manila to prepare for their friendly with Malaysia on Feb. 29.
Meanwhile, the Philippines’ is bracketed on a tough group in the 1st AFC U-22 Asian Cup competitions, where the 2013 qualifiers will be held this year.
The Azkals will be joined by Chinese Taipei, Myanmar, Malaysia, Vietnam and South Korea in Group G.
All the qualifying matches will be held starting June, the finals will be played in 2013.
The next edition of the biennial competition (2015) will serve as qualifiers for the 2016 Olympics.
