Sweep by Adamson

ADAMSON  retained the UAAP women’s softball crown yesterday, routing University of the Philippines, 11-1, in only four innings and completing a sweep of Season 74 action at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Rizza Bernardino struck out five batters  as the Lady Falcons swept all 10 games of the eliminations to clinch the title outright.

With a roster boosted with national team standouts, Adamson clinched its 11th softball title, the second-best in the UAAP behind Far Eastern University’s 20.

It was the second straight unbeaten season for the Lady Falcons, who are now unscathed in 20 matches since last season.

A jubilant Adamson coach Ana Santiago was all praises for Bernardino, the 18-year-old Sta. Cruz (Laguna) pride, who was named Most Valuable Player, besides grabbing the Most RBIs (runs batted in), Best Hitter and Best Pitcher awards.

“Talagang nagpakita siya (Bernardino) ng kumpiyansa this season.  Sinabi ko sa kanya na ikaw ang tatapos sa game na ito,” said Santiago, who also coached the Philippine Blu Girls the gold medal in the Indonesia 26th Southeast Asian Games last December.
