Bradley talks tough

TIM Bradley calls it a `dream come true for him,’ but plans to make it one big nightmare for Manny Pacquiao.

The man who just won the `Pacman’ sweepstakes officially signed the contract for a rich fight with the world’s top fighter on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with Pacquiao staking his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title.

As the reigning WBO junior welterweight champion, Bradley, the cocky yet efficient fighter out of Cathedral City, California, will have to go up in weight to fulfill his life-long goal of proving himself capable of becoming the no. 1 fighter in boxing.

Bradley doesn’t see any problem in adding weight, having fought at the 147-lbs limit two years ago in a 12-round unanimous decision against Luis Carlos Abregu of Argentina.

And he doesn’t see any problem either, staying competitive and giving the Filipino boxing superstar a very good fight inside the ring.

“He can be beat,” Bradley said of Pacquiao. “I just need to get in there and follow my game plan. I know his weaknesses, his favorite combinations. In my mind, I'm definitely going to win. I'll take it to this guy.

“This will be no walk in the park for Manny Pacquiao.”

Bradley on Thursday announced that he and manager Cameron Dunkin already signed the contract for the bout that expects to net him at least $5 million in prize purse. Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Konz is coming over this weekend for the reigning champion (58-3-2, 38 KOs) to likewise sign on the dotted line, although the Filipino southpaw already gave his blessing on the match earlier.

“It’s time to get to work,” said the unbeaten Bradley (28-0, 12 KOs), obviously enthusiastic about the biggest fight of his boxing career, that included wins over elite fighters such as Davon Alexander, Lamont Peterson, Nate Campbell, and just recently Joel Casamayor.

“This is about being the No.1 fighter in the world, and that’s what my goal has been for as long as I can remember,” said the American challenger. “I’ve been waiting for this my whole life.”

Bradley won his first world title in 2008, scoring a split decision over Junior Witter in Nottingham Arena in United Kingdom for the World Boxing Council (WBC) junior welterweight championship. He floored Witter in the sixth round with an overhand right.

A year later, he added the WBO belt in his collection with a unanimous decision over former champion Kendall Holt in Quebec, Canada.

Now, he sees himself usurping another world title at the expense of one of the world’s top pound-for-pound fighters.

Bradley’s confidence stems from the way Pacquiao conducted himself in his last outing, a majority decision win over Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez in the third installment of their intriguing rivalry, which many thought should have gotten to Marquez’s way.

“It wasn't so much that Marquez exposed Pacquiao, as much as he is not as spectacular,” Bradley said. “It's harder for Pacquiao to land his shots now, and you even saw that in the (May 2011) Shane Mosley fight. Look, Marquez had Pacquiao's number, and Marquez is 38 and past his prime.”

And unlike Marquez, Bradley is only 28 and definitely at the peak of his career.

“I'm younger, stronger and faster than Marquez,” he added.
