Red Lions take solo lead


DEFENDING champion San Beda solidified its hold of the No. 1 spot with a 3-1 win over guest team Lyceum in the NCAA football tournament Wednesday at the Philsports pitch.

Jim Flores (38th), Neil Dorimon (45th) and Jay Soberano (75th) delivered for the Red Lions to notch their fourth straight victory for 12 points in the overall standings.

College of Saint Benilde, the 2010 champion, downed University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 3-1, in the other match to tie Arellano University in third place.

Ralph Porteria struck on the 5th and 50th minute, while Roald Tamsi converted on a 64th minute goal for the Blazers, who improved to 2-1-1 win-draw-loss record for seven points alongside the Chiefs (2-1-2).

Emilio Aguinaldo College, which has nine points, is in second place with a 3-1-0 mark.

San Beda and St. Benilde face off on the last day of first round on Monday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.

The Pirates remained at three points on a 1-0-3 record, while the Altas are winless in five starts.
