Sportswriter rules SMC golf


Musong Castillo of the Philippine Daily Inquirer won the overall title in the 10th edition of the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Media Invitational golf tournament held recently at the West course of Wack Wack Golf and Country Club.

Castillo carded a gross score of 75 for the top plum while the Classes A, B and C championship trophies went to DZBB’s Orly Trinidad (70 net), Inquirer Radio’s Jay Sonza (72 net), and DZRH’s Deo Macalma (72 net), respectively, in the tournament under the System 36 format

Placing second and third in Class A were Business Mirror’s Anton Cabangon-Chua (70 net) and GMA-7’s Arnold Clavio (71 net), respectively. Taking first and second runner-up trophies in Class B were the Philippine Star’s Alex Magno (72 net) and DZRH’s Rey Langit (72 net), respectively, while Manila Bulletin’s Ding Marcelo (73 net) placed second and DWIZ’s Rey Pacheco (73 net) landed third in Class C.

Fun hole awards went to Castillo (Nearest to the Pin), Philippine Star’s Dante Navarro (Most Accurate Drive), Trinidad (Longest Drive) and Philippine Star’s Nelson Beltran (Most Physically Fit).

On hand to award the trophies and other prizes were SMC vice president for corporate affairs Ramon Santiago, assistant vice president-media affairs group Mary Jane Llanes and SMC media relations manager Jayson Brizuela.

This tournament, which gathered 44 golfers from print and broadcast media, was supported by San Miguel Brewery, Inc., Petron Corporation, San Miguel Yamamura Packaging Corp., TransAire Development Holdings Corp., Ginebra San Miguel, Purefoods Deli, Purefoods-Hormel Co., Magnolia Ice Cream and B-Meg.
