SAN Miguel vented its ire against the Bangkok Cobras, whipping its fellow expansion team Saturday night, 95-89, and got back on track in the AirAsia ASEAN Basketball League at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Import Doug Thomas led a balance scoring for the Beermen with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while RJ Rizada set the tone for the rout by scoring 10 of his 13 points in the opening quarter.
The host team improved its record to 3-2, after losing the last time to league leader Singapore Slingers, 71-63.
Coach Bobby Parks said the tiring road trip obviously affected the team.
“It was a long trip and I think some of our guys lost focus,” said Parks, whose team battled defending champion Chang Thailand Slammers in Bangkok prior to their meeting with the Slingers.
Thomas entertained the weekend crowd with his power plays inside, including a thunderous left-handed slam that made it 57-34 with 7:48 left in the third period.
Leo Avenido added 13 for the Beermen, who also got 12 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks from import Dalron Johnson.
Filipino import Marvin Cruz and Gentry Lewis had 17 and 14 points, respectively, for the Cobras, who fell to 2-3.
